Birthright is the first book I've had the pleasure of reading by Alexa Linger. This story, like most Dystopian novels, is set in a set of communities that refuse to allow their members leave. Unlike most Dystpoians, there is no threat of the "unknown" if they manage to escape. The story itself had a normalacy of everyday life in many ways, even if it took place several decades into the future. I thoroughly enjoyed the touch of magick the story holds, though that part of the story is still a bit mind-boggling since there was n explanation as to how these special gifts came to exist at all and why it's only the select few in Downe and the other three communities that have them. I was also pleased with the slip in of an gay character, even if he is minor player in the story. I hope Ms. Linger will decide to expand on this, perhaps go into the past, or let us see how things in Downe are going now.
I would recommend this book to lovers of Dystopian and hints of magick. It's a great read for young and old alike.
I give this book 4 of 5 paws
